Divine secrets of the Internet Dater... →
So after a long conversation with my sister and a friend of mine at work, I made up my mind to take the plunge. I tried a little internet dating last summer but couldn’t get into it all the way because money is required and I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. (Plus I was sort of dating someone at the time and didn’t really care to pick up anyone else…) It has been almost...
The Twenty Minute Mile →
Our family loves traditions. Unfortunately, sometimes we can’t agree on which traditions we should keep and which should go. For the second year in a row my family participated in “The Human Race” in Draper. This event is put on by the food bank and after you’ve donated your bag of food you can run or walk a 5K. This morning at 7:45am we all met at Draper Park…it was...
I am Thankful... →
Kristin’s list has made me feel like I need to do this too. I also have a great deal to be thankful for. As I look around at the other single moms out there, I realize how truely blessed the boys and I are. I am so thankful for my wonderful and amazing parents. My mom watches my kids every day and makes sure they get off the bus okay and are safe in the neighborhood playing. Her...
Thankful →
I’m 26 years old and I have to say that every year of my life I’ve had much to be thankful for. I don’t know if it’s my age or the nostalgia that’s followed me around all week, but I feel particularly grateful this year. As I was driving home from the gym this morning I heard the Band Aid song, “Do they know it’s Christmas?” on the radio and I...
Old Friends →
I had an experience over the weekend which made me feel very old.
I went to middle school and high school with two very sweet, fun, darling girls. I have heard of studies which say that three girls cannot be friends because one of the girls always gets left out. Girls are more one-on-one creatures and cannot be in groups of three. Somehow, when we were in middle school, the three of us became...
Secret Shame →
I grew up in a house where we rarely watched TV and when we did we were made to feel guilty about wasting that time rather than reading or being outside making memories. As a result of this, I feel guilty any time I watch TV. But there are a few shows on of late that I have become totally sucked into. The first one I never would have watched on my own but a good friend of mine was raving about it...

Fudge Almond Cheesecake Originally uploaded by ValerieBW
Today Laura and I are going to be baking pies and making desserts for Thanksgiving. This cheesecake recipe is one that I found when we lived in Venezuela and we’ve been making it for the holidays ever since. In fact, it has become Peter’s traditional birthday cake.
My boys... →
Here are my boys - all laid back and watching TV. Harrison loves TV, as you can see. I love the way he’s leaning on Peter with one arm, legs are spread, and his belly is sticking out - completely relaxed - as if to say, “Ahhhhh… life is good!”
Gotta love those Cougars →
I know, I know… Another post about BYU. What can I say? I can’t help myself. Just look at this fan and you’ll see why I have this problem:
BYU played TCU tonight, and Peter and Harrison were all ready to watch the Cougars. Look at Harrison’s stinkin’ adorable hat he just got from his cousin Eliza. It says “Future Cougar” on it, and in the back it...
StoryCorps →
For the last 3 years I have spent most of my morning ritual (the gym and getting ready) listening to NPR. This is kind of funny to me on a few different levels but mostly because we used to tease my dad mercilessly about the fact that he listened to “Nerd Public Radio.” During the last few years NPR has been airing something called, “StoryCorps.” StoryCorps is a mobile...
Two weeks to Thanksgiving →
I can’t believe the season is here. I forget how gung-ho the wrides are until I read their blogs and Peter’s got a count down and Adam’s got music playing. I had to make a list this morning — I’m already stressed. NOT a good sign. I know that I want to have fun, there is just so much to do to be sure it is a “relaxing” holiday. Jaxson told me this morning...

I have a new favorite flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/daybeforechristmas/pool/page8/ Here in the Wride household, the day after Halloween means not only the start of November and gear-up time for Thanksgiving (we do not forget that wonderful holiday by any means), but it also means that it is time to start...

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas →
… Well not so much outside, but everywhere we look people are getting ready for the holidays. The stores in the mall, the ads in the paper, even Costco has their decorations out. Not that we don’t love Thanksgiving - don’t worry we’ll celebrate the day by remembering all we are thankful for, all we’ve been blessed with, and by stuffing ourselves until we are...
Happy Halloween! →
Here it is, the moment you’ve all been waiting for…. (and only a few days late) Introducing the world’s cutest giraffe!!!!
What a cutie. Sorry for the picture overload, I just couldn’t decide which one was my favorite to share. I took him our on our balcony and I couldn’t get him to look at the camera - he was too busy looking over the edge. So I ended up...
Happy Halloween! →
Like many of you readers, we carved pumpkins on Monday night for Family Home Evening. Finished products are pictured above. Emma and Spencer had some fabulous fun with the pumpkins. Emma was all smiles about the process; Spencer loved helping to punch holes to create a pattern for our creations but wasn’t too keen on the whole gooey seed stuff. He takes after his Aunt Laura with that one. ...
Halloween 2007 →
We had a fun Halloween! We drove to my in-laws for some trick-or-treating. Maddie (Princess Aurora) got to go trick-or-treating with all of her cousins. The first two houses she wanted to hold my hand, but after that she got the hang of it and was running around with the rest of the kids. She was SO excited! I had so much fun watching her. I pushed Ryan (Pooh) and Daniel (Tigger) around in the...
